4 Businesses Cited for Selling Tobacco to Minors

More than two dozen Oak Forest businesses were surveyed for compliance with tobacco product laws.

Four businesses that sell tobacco products were cited as part of a recent compliance check conducted by Oak Forest police.

The Mobil Gas Station located at 14701 Central Ave., BP Amoco at 5548 159th St., India Pak Grocery at 5233 159th St., and Marathon Gas Station at 15301 S. Harlem Ave were selling tobacco products to minors, police said.

This recent operation, which happened on the evening of May 23, 2014, was the fourth conducted as part of the 2013–2014 "Kids Can't Buy Them Here" compliance survey. Fines for those found not in compliance can face fines of $200 to $500.

Police surveyed 26 businesses within the city limits. The following were found in compliance:

Circle K, Osco Drug Store, Eddy’s Tobacco and Liquor, Shell Gas Station – 159st, Convenient Food Mart, 7/11 – Central Ave., Walgreens, Foremost Liquors, Phillips 66 Gas Station, Stop & Go, CVS Pharmacy, Food 4 Less Fuel Station, Food For Less, Swagat Foods, Citgo Gas Station, 7/11 – 167th St, Shell Gas Station – 167th St, Rose Liquors, Dotty’s, Swagat Foods, and Aishas GoLo Food Mart. Two locations surveyed do not sell tobacco products any longer.

The compliance checks are funded by a grant from the Illinois Liquor Control Commission.
