2 Strange Men Pester Oak Forest Family

A family dealt with repeated visits from two strangers apparently looking for an invitation into the house.

An Oak Forest girl, her father and grandfather were approached seven times within 40 minutes at their home on Nov. 25.

The first person, a white male with short brown hair, knocked on the door at about 6:05 p.m. and asked if the family needed help with any "technical difficulties," according to an Oak Forest police report. The 8-year-old girl, who lives with her family in the 6000 block of Oakland, said no and shut the door.

The same man knocked again and asked if the family needed an exterminator. The girl again replied "no" and shut the door.

A few minutes later, a third knock came from the door. the report states. A black male was now standing with the other man. The girl immediately shut the door and told her father and grandfather. After knocking a fourth time, the two men at the door noticed the men inside the home and walked to a brown SUV.

Shortly after that, the strange pair knocked again and asked if they could come in out of the cold, the report states. The men continued to knock, asking to come in, but the family refused to allow them to enter. When the men refused to leave, the grandfather yelled that they were going to call police.

Officers were unable to find the SUV after checking the area.

Call the police immediately, don't wait people.

Why is an eight year old repeatedly answering the door? And why wait eight times before even thinking about calling the police.

I agree - why was the girl answering and why didn't they call the police after the first incident. Don't wait! People sure do have some nerve...

Thanks for letting us know 8 days later.

My thoughts exactly. The kid is answering the door and everyone else is oblivious? Then once they are aware they don't call the police immediately? Everyone should learn from this.

I think I ran into the same men in the jewel parking lot on 159th on Monday. Except they left in a white van. I didn't report it cause they were asking for money from everyone in the parking lot.

Iris—We check police reports quite frequently. Often 3 times per week (or more). We can only report the police blotter items as fast as the reports come in. There was no additional community alert issued for this, or anything of the sort. We get you the info as soon as we have it.

Tis the season for people to be approaching and asking for money. I hate when it happens and get very creeped out. I take my dog with me everywhere especially the gas stations. I'll let my German Shepherd do the answering...
