14-Year-Old Blinded After BB Gun Incident

The boy's left eye was damaged—possibly permanently—after he was shot with the gun held against his face, according to an Oak Forest police report.

A 14-year-old boy was shot with a BB gun and left blind, possibly permanently, in one eye, according to an Oak Forest police report.

The boy was taken to South Suburban Hospital for treatment, the report stated. The boy's mother told police June 4 that the boy might suffer permanent damage and is currently unable to see out of his left eye.

The shooting actually happened two days earlier, on June 2, according to the report. The shooter held the BB gun to the boy's face and claimed it was not loaded. The boy was shot despite telling the shooter to put the gun down.

The boy's mother said she would speak with investigators before deciding whether to pursue the matter further with police, the report states.
