Former Alderman, Local Business Founder Remembered for Honesty

The funeral Mass for a former Oak Forest alderman and local business owner is scheduled for Monday.

Richard “Dick” Weber of Oak Forest served a term as a 7th Ward alderman from 1983 to 1987. His longtime friend and former Bernard Kelly remembered Richard as an honest man.

“I particularly remember his frankness, his honest and his hard work,” Kelly said.

Richard passed away Monday, May 28.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Damian Church, 5250 155th St.

Richard served as an army mechanic, working on aircraft during four years of service.

Weber’s wife, Bonnie, said his time in the Army was one of the happiest of his life.

“I don’t think he had a bad day in all four years he was there,” Bonnie said.

Richard was blessed with many good friends, Bonnie said. He also was the kind of person who could do just about anything well.

“There wasn’t anything he set out to do that he didn’t succeed at,” she said.

After the army, Richard returned to Chicago and worked as an airline mechanic and pilot and eventually went to work for a hospital equipment supply company. He later founded Amity Hospital Service, located in Country Club Hills, with members of his family.

Richard is survived by his children, Cynthia Kessel and Danielle Weber; grandchildren Katie Quinn, Melanie Weber-Brokke and Emily Weber-Brokke; brother Henry; and a host of nieces and nephews, according to the obituary.

He joins his late brother Steven Weber.
