Oak Forest Community Mourning Death of Beloved Crossing Guard

Long-time Oak Forest resident and well-known crossing guard Debbie Morrissy has died.

The and parish of St. Damian will begin the new year without a very familiar, very beloved face.

Debbie Morrissy, well-known crossing guard and sister of Oak Forest Police Officer James Morrissy, has died at 53 years old.

Morrissy served as a crossing guard for Oak Forest since 1983, working most recently at 155th Street and Long Avenue in front of .

"People have commented that they knew something was wrong if she wasn't there," City Clerk Scott Burkhardt said. "She was well thought of."

Officer Morrissy's wife Janice serves on the city's Planning and Zoning Commission.

"The Morrissy family has been in the city of Oak Forest for decades," Burkhardt said. "The city sends its condolences to the Morrissy family. I know she'll be missed."

The wake will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at , followed by a funeral at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at McKenzie and a Mass at 10 a.m. at .

Funeral bunting will adorn City Hall until further notice.
