Bark For A Park committee head says a national contest could help fill the coffers and is encouraging residents to lend their support.

A proposed dog park might be closer to a reality than ever before.

The Bark For A Park committee and Forest Preserve District of Cook County have a “tentative agreement" for use of seven acres at 159th Street and Oak Park Avenue, said First Ward Alderwoman Laura Clemons. The committee recently start calling for support from by asking them to vote in a national contest sponsored by pet-product maker PetSafe. The grand prize winner receives $100,000 while two finalists win $25,000.

To help out, visit the PetSafe contest site and its Facebook page. People can vote twice a day, once on each site, Clemons said.

The first round of voting ends June 15. The top 15 will move on to the second round. From there, the three winners will be chosen by a PetSafe committee, Clemons said.

This contest is just another possibility for them to find funding, Clemons said. Winning the contest would be being able to build better dog park.

"When we started this project in September of last year, our goal was to raise funds however we could," Clemons said.
