Thunderbolts Welcome Fitzgerald Family & Friends in Season Opener

A "Pack the Park" event put together by the Oak Forest Baseball Association turned into a chance to fundraise for Alex Fitzgerald.

A group of Alex Fitzgerald's friends and several of his family members attended the Windy City Thunderbolts home opener Thursday night. Among the 12-year-old family members was Ashley Fitzgerald, 22, who threw out one of the opening pitches.

The event originally started as a Pack the Park event for the Baseball Association, said Jim Zubrzycki, an association board member. Zubrycki spoke with Mike VerSchave of the Thunderbolts organization, who offered to help out the fundraising efforts and arrange for the opening pitch.

"He did everything to help out," Zubrzycki said.

Friends of Alex wore the "Fighting 4 Fitz" T-shirts, which are being sold to raise money for the family's medical costs. More information on how to help out is in the "How to Help Fitz" story linked below.

Alex was hospitalized after being struck by a car outside in April.
