Oak Forest Baseball: Bengals Beat Lemont 2-1 on Johnson's Walk-Off Hit

On Monday, the Bengals came from behind to beat Lemont 2-1 on Arthur Johnson's walkoff single.

Held without a hit for the first 5 innings and trailing 1-0, battled back and won on a walk-off single by Bengal CF Arthur Johnson. Speed and pitching were the difference for Oak Forest. In the bottom of the 6th inning, 2B Jim Blake got the Bengals’ first hit with an infield single. Bengal catcher Johnny Zubek (27) followed with a Triple over the right fielder’s head to score Blake. In the 9th, pinch hitter Tom Zale (14) also reached on an infield single. SS Jason Hine executed a perfect sacrifice bunt getting Zale to second base, setting up Johnson’s walk-off hit.

Bengal Ace, Kyle Funkhouser battled early uncharacteristic control issues and a shaky Bengal defense to give up an unearned run in the 1st inning. After that Funkhouser settled down and pitched a gem. Lemont Southpaw starter and Illinois bound Tyler Jay out-pitched  Funkhouser for the first 5 innings before the Bengals used their speed to break through in the 6th.

Oak Forest improves to 4-1. Same two teams get a rematch in Lemont on Tuesday.
