She Said "Yes"

Take a trip back 5 years to what this date means to Juliana and Chris.

“There is no way I can do it the way she wants and still make it a surprise.  She figures everything out, she knows its coming and I am a terrible liar.”  You could almost hear him checking off the options he already considered.  “She will want people to be there and she will want to look nice but if I plan it for a night we are going out then she will know for sure and above all else, she wants to be surprised.”

“She gets ready for work and looks nice, why not do it when she is going to work, or thinks she is going to work?” I suggested.

“Possibly…”

“You could hang a sign or something that she sees when she comes in!”  The picture was starting to come together and he was seeing this as a real option.  “Let me see if I can order a sign online. You take care of finding a shift that she thinks she is working, or that you can find someone to cover for her and then you can decide if that will work.”

Moments later I had a vinyl banner configured online and ready to purchase when he returned with the results of his task.

“I talked to her manager and they can have someone cover her shift if we just tell them when.”  He was excited and eager and a little something else I couldn’t quite detect.

“So then do you want to order this banner?”  He peered over my shoulder to the screen and saw the sample they provided to confirm your order.

He pointed at the image, “Change that part.  I never call her that.”

“Oh sorry, of course, you are right.”  I fussed with the keys, manipulated the online request and looked back at him for confirmation, excitement building on behalf of her, both of them…all of us. He nodded at the change and held my gaze for a moment, looking even more excited and a little more of the other emotion I had yet to completely pinpoint.  My underlying concerns assumed the worst and sought a final confirmation before I would hit send.  I had to ask, yet again, the question whose answer would haunt and halo our family for years to come.  “Are you sure you can commit to my daughter?” (to read more go to www.forjuliana.org)
