Marist's Nic Weishar Selected to U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Midlothian resident Nic Weishar and Marist High School senior was tapped for the extremely selective bowl game coming in January 2014.

Marist High School senior Nic Weishar has been selected to play in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Weishar is one of only 90 student-athletes in the country to get an invite. The game will take place on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The annual East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 1 p.m. EST.

Weishar, of Midlothian, will receive his game jersey during an official ceremony at Marist High School on Monday, Nov. 25, at 1:40 p.m. in the school’s main gym. His varsity football and basketball teammates will attend, along with the entire senior class, and Weishar’s family. Representatives from U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be onhand to emcee the ceremony. 

Weishar was selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which consists of All-American games and 247 sports. U.S. Army All-Americans are eligible for a variety of personal awards as well.

Offensively Weishar currently has 86 catches, 1,047 yards, and 10 touchdowns. On defense, he has accrued 38 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 batted balls, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, and 3 touchdowns. He will help lead his teammates in the state semifinal game at Naperville Central Saturday at 7 p.m. 

Weishar has committed to the University of Notre Dame for the 2014-15 school year. Weishar also broke the career record for receptions in the state of Illinois this year. He is a three-time all-conference player and two-time ESCC Offensive Player of the Year.
