Devoted Volunteer Beverly Beaty Honored as Cook County 'Unsung Heroine'

Beaty is tied to the Boy Scouts of America, Catholic Charities, Oak Forest Senior Commission, and more.

A tireless Oak Forest volunteer and senior citizen has received kudos from Cook County.

On March 27, the Cook County Commission on Women’s Issues, which advises the Cook County President and members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners on issues of concern to women and girls, recognized Oak Forest Senior Citizens’ Commission Chair Beverly Beaty as one of the county’s Peggy A. Montes Unsung Heroines.

Beaty was recognized at the commission’s awards breakfast at the Chicago Cultural Center.

“Our community and the entire 6th District truly benefit from Beverly Beaty’s generous gift of time, energy, expertise, and leadership,” said Cook County Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy, who nominated Beaty for the award.

“Her good works, commitment to seniors, and positive actions have made a difference in Oak Forest and to the many residents in our community. May she continue her journey as a ‘heroine’ and lead a path into the future for others.”

Beaty’s extensive volunteer service includes work with the Boy Scouts of America, various political campaigns, Catholic Charities, Age Options (formerly the Area Agency on Aging), and the Oak Forest Senior Commission. In fact, Beaty is credited with starting the commission’s annual Senior Health Fair nearly 15 years ago and working with the police and fire departments to implement the city’s medical identification bracelet program.

Beaty also continues to coordinate the commission’s monthly luncheons, which feature entertainment or educational speakers. Over the years, Beaty has worked closely with Cook County government officials to obtain scarce seasonal inoculations and benefits information for seniors who may have otherwise gone without afforded protection.

“We are extremely proud of Beverly’s service to the community,” said Mayor Hank Kuspa. “On more than one occasion, we have sought her assistance and insight to help local seniors. Beverly is truly deserving of this award.”
