John Kirkton couldn't hold back the emotion Tuesday night when it came to honoring a Tinley Park High School worker who saved a teacher from choking.

The Bremen High School District 228 board president began to tear up during the board's meeting while introducing maintenance worker Jim Smith, who performed the Heimlich maneuver to save teacher Tyler Teaney from choking Dec. 2. Kirkton became so emotional that he needed another trustee, Rev. Dave Messing, to finish reading the introduction.
