Oak Forest Fury Collecting Donations for Tornado Victims

The Oak Forest Fury lacrosse league is stepping up to help out people impacted by the Nov. 17 tornado.

The following is an email sent to Oak Forest Patch.

It’s not every day that we wake up, look around and count our blessings of what and who we have surrounding us.  But for those of us who have been watching the news and tuning in to the devastation and loss in Washington, Ill. I’m sure we all are doing just that.  Just this morning the news announced that over 1,000 homes were destroyed or damaged during that horrific tornado on Sunday.

Our Fury Lacrosse team has been fortunate enough to play in a tournament in Washington for the past 4 years.  We have gotten to know some coaches, players and parents and feel like we need to do something to help this community.

We have contacted Matt LaHood who is the Director of the Washington Park District Lacrosse Program and asked him what our lacrosse family can do to help.  There is a fund set up to collect monetary donations for the families in the area who were affected by this tragedy.

Since we are also involved in the SAK Basketball Organization, it was suggested that we use the SAK forum as a way to gather the community together to help the Washington community in need.  Oak Forest has a very close community we are sure that our friends and family will come together to help these Washington families in crisis.

Oak Forest Fury Lacrosse Youth and Fury Lacrosse High School will be running the concessions for SAK at both Hille and Arbor this Saturday, November 23rd and the proceeds made will go directly to this fund.  We will also be running 50/50 raffles and there will be a bucket at the schools for donations.  All funds will be sent to the St. Patrick Church Tornado Relief Fund.

This community is also in need of some very basic supplies.   If you would be able to donate anything from the list below, please bring to SAK on Saturday at either school and we will deliver these items during the week of Thanksgiving.
