Walgreens Has Giving Trees for Together We Cope

Last year, Together We Cope played Santa for 1,187 children from families who faced harsh economic times in the recession. Through its annual Adopt-a-Family program, TWC connected with hundreds of people, businesses and organizations who agreed to "adopt" a family of youngsters who needed their help to enjoy a happy holiday.

This year, TWC is inviting 1,600 youngsters to receive the Christmas assistance. The children list what they most want from Santa, and the adopting families provide those gifts anonymously through TWC. By Oct. 1, 150 children already had been adopted, but TWC needs hundreds more generous people in order to make the program a success. Children can be fully sponsored with three gifts for about $50.

Walgreens stores in Oak Forest, Midlothian and Tinley Park are lending their support this year by making it easy to adopt a family. Shoppers can pick a child's name from a giving tree and purchase gifts right at that store for about $15 apiece.
