Game Maker Programming for Teens (Register now, Starts June 4)

U.S. News & World Report, in their rankings of “The 25 Best Jobs of 2012,” ranked five computer related careers in the top nine: Software Developer (#2), Database Administrator (#5), Web Developer (#6), Computer Systems Analyst (#7), and Computer Programmer (#9). Courses in the Teen Programming Series provide teenagers with a valuable introduction to the skills and concepts utilized in these career areas. Each course guides students to create useful and entertaining software applications.

GameMaker for Teens: Students learn to create 2D games using Game Maker. Several genres, including maze games like PacMan and Centipede, shooter games like Asteroids and Tank Battle, and platformers like Mario and Q-Bert are introduced. In addition, students will have lab time to design and implement games of their own design. No textbook is required, but students should bring a 4GB+ USB thumb drive. Ages 13-19.

Wednesday, June 4 and Thursday June 5, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Moraine Valley Community College.
