Weekly Patch-up: Keating Takes 7th Ward; Hostage Hoax; You Ask, Patch Answers

  • — Should the hospital's services be altered according to Cook County's plan, health system leaders. The county's plan to close the hospital and convert it into an out-patient only facility was rejected last month; they'll try again in June.
  • Hille Highlights — . We highlighted another successful competition, with reader-submitted photos and video clips. Check it out, as the sixth-graders show off their instrumental skills. 
  • You Ask, Patch Answers — We tried out a new feature this week, a little something called You Ask, Patch Answers. At the top of your page, you might have noticed a tab called "Q&A." It's there as a handy, dandy tool to help us tailor the information to what you want to know—you ask us a question, and we do our best to track down the answer from the proper sources. This week's inaugural edition spun off of readers inquiring about the speed limit on Central Avenue.
  • Budget Talks Continue — The city council will have to approve the new budget by April 30, and talks have been in the works in financial committee meetings.   • Kerkstra's Got Talent — The students of Kerkstra are a talented bunch—and they proved it Wednesday, April 20. Check out our of the school's talent show, performed before hundreds.

  • Bogus Standoff — Patch was a block away, as police from over 20 agencies surrounded the home of resident Mark Fitch, believing Fitch was inside, armed and possibly dangerous. .
