National Weather Service: Snowstorm On Its Way

After Wednesday's mild weather, expect temperatures to plunge as the area sees moderate to heavy show through Thursday.

After unseasonably mild weather this winter, Thursday's snow storm may come as a shock.

While Wednesday will continue to be mild and dry, an arctic front is expected to come through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service

A possible rain-snow mix will transition to all snow by Thursday morning as temperatures fall through the 20's. Two inches to five inches of snow can be expected across northeastern Illinois.

Moderate to heavy snow and possible wind gusts of 30 mph will make for a hazardous Thursday morning commute, according to the NWS. Visibility may be reduced to a half-mile or less at times.

The Thursday evening commute will also be hazardous, and temperatures are expected to drop between 10 and 15 degrees Thursday night with wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph. That combination could produce wind chill values of 0 to 5 degrees.
