LOOK: Oak Forest Remembers 9/11

Oak Forest commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on the doorsteps of the Oak Forest fire and police departments and City Hall Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011—and Patch was there. Check out our photos.

More than 100 members of the Oak Forest community lined the lawn outside on Sunday, Sept. 11 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The ceremony included readings from the and departments, in addition to the Emergency Management Agency. Each read their own tributes to those who lost their lives that day and in the years since. The speeches were followed by wreath dedications and a rifle salute, as well as the ceremonial ringing of the bell, to honor firefighters killed in the line of action.

A moment of silence held at noon coincided with a national moment of silence.
