A student who was hit by a car outside Hille Middle School Friday night remained in intensive care Saturday morning after undergoing surgery, according to Principal Courtney Orzel. Officials have not named the student.

A student is in critical condition after being struck by a car outside the school on 151st Street in Oak Forest Friday night.

As of Saturday morning, the student remained in intensive care at a local hospital after undergoing surgery, according to an email Principal Dr. Courtney Orzel sent to Hille families. No further details are available about the child's injuries or condition.

"The child is in a great hospital with the very best of care, and he has a long recovery in front of him," Orzel wrote in the email.

The student is not able to receive texts or phone calls, but the family welcomes any show of support from classmates to aid in his recovery.

The 12-year-old student was walking home from the school musical with friends when he was hit by an eastbound car as he was crossing 151st Street, near Condado Drive, said.  The boy was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Citations are pending against the driver, according to Lieutenant John Koschnitzky. The South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.

The school will have social workers and counselors at school on Monday for any students who would like to talk, Orzel noted.

Staff will also collect cards, letters and well wishes for the child and deliver them to the family at the hospital. A box will be set in the school's main office for students to leave their thoughts.

"The family thanks everyone for their continued support and asks that you pray for his recovery," Orzel wrote.
