Get Ready, Here It Comes: Up to 7 Inches of Snow On Its Way

The National Weather Service is predicting snowfall overnight at a rate of one inch per hour, making Friday's morning commute a slippery, slow one.

Winter isn't over yet.

While the area has enjoyed mild temperatures following , forecasts predict more snow is on the way Thursday evening into Friday morning.

Thursday's rain is expected to clump into a wet snow by the evening commute, increasing to a snowfall rate of up to an inch per hour around 8 p.m. Four to seven inches could could fall across the area, with greater accumulation expected in northern Cook County, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow is expected to sweep from west to east across the area through Friday morning. Heaviest snowfall will occur in the late evening and early overnight hours. High winds could also blow snow and reduce visibility. Drivers are advised to expect snow-covered roads and a difficult commute.

The area is under a Winter Weather Advisory beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. Friday.
