County Will Take Over Care of Two Long-Term Patients at Oak Forest Hospital

CEO William Foley says if the hospital is converted into an outpatient-only facility, two patients in question will not be abandoned, the Associated Press reports.

Cook County will cover the care of two long-term care patients without insurance and on ventilators at Oak Forest Hospital, should the hospital close, the Associated Press reported Monday, April 18.

County health system CEO William Foley announced the county's role in their future care to 75 people at a hearing Monday. The county plans to convert the hospital into an outpatient-only facility, including changing the emergency room into an immediate care center with daytime and evening hours.

The Illinois Facilities and Services Review Board, which previously rejected the county's plan on March 21, will reconsider the closure on May 10, according to the report.
