School District 146's Fierke Education Center Wins Beautification Award

School District 146’s Fierke Education Center recently received a letter from Mayor Kuspa of Oak Forest revealing that the school was one of the chosen recipients of the “Forest in Bloom” Award for 2013.

Principal Mark French said as he shared the news, “I am so excited to tell everyone that we have won another “Forest in Bloom” beautification award.  This was the second time our school has won, with the first received in 2010.”

The awards are given each year to the private homes, businesses, and organizations in Oak Forest whose pride through quality landscaping and maintenance are judged by a panel of seven people.  Nominations applications were due by July 1, and all submitted properties are judged.  Mr. French said he had no idea who nominated the school.

He went on to say, “Back in 2010 I asked our buildings and grounds director Scott Slager if we could improve the landscaping in front of the building.  Mr. Slager chose the plants and supervised the design and the ongoing maintenance.  That same year we decided to paint the stone/concrete facing of the building and the current color was chosen.  Mr. Slager and our maintenance crew have done a great job keeping Fierke Education Center simply beautiful.  It’s really nice to know that the City of Oak Forest and the residents appreciate our efforts of beautification, and that Fierke is considered to be most noteworthy.”

Congratulations to Fierke Education Center and all of the winners. A full list of winners can be found at:
