Key players: Richards: Deon Alexander, Sr. G; Josh Meier, Sr. F; Thaer Othman, Sr. G; Dedrick Shannon, Jr. G; Spencer Tears, Jr. G. Oak Forest: Kyle Flanagan, Jr. F; Jason Roland, Sr. G; Tom Shute, Sr. G.

Fast Facts: Richards is off to an unbeaten start in the South Suburban Red after Tuesday’s win at Lemont. The 6-foot-7 Meier, a four-year varsity player and three-year starter, is committed to Chicago State. Shannon and Tears are a formidable junior guard tandem. Both are Division I recruits. Alexander and Othman represent threats from three-point range. Shannon, the team’s point guard and ringleader of the team’s pressure defense, has been dealing with some injuries as of late, but has been playing. Meier gives the Bulldogs a big advantage inside with his size and skill. Oak Forest has had a great start this season, as well, losing only two games thus far. Leading the way is 6-foot-9 junior Kyle Flanagan. His match-up with Meier down low could be the key to the game. Flanagan is averaging 16.4 points and nine rebounds per game and was the MVP of the Romeoville Christmas Tournament. Shute gives the Bengals an advantage with his outside shooting and deft touch from the free throw line, which comes in handy late in close games. He is a three-year varsity player and is averaging 14.2 points per game. Roland is the Bengals’ point guard and floor leader. Oak Forest won the Romeoville tournament. Coach Matt Manzke points to his team’s balance as a key to their success this season.
