A new Mongolian barbecue restaurant has opened at the former location of Villa Rivera Mexican restaurant on 159th Street.

VIP Mongolian Bar and Grill, 5233 W. 159th St., is a family-owned eatery that serves eastern and central Asian food, along with a few American standards, according to a City of Oak Forest press release. Like traditional Mongolian barbecues—though technically this cuisine style is neither Mongolian nor strictly barbecue—customers at VIP create their own stir-fry dishes, choosing from meat, seafood, vegetables and sauces.

The restaurant also has an extensive drink menu, featuring a specialty item called the Fruit Loop, the release stated.

“Although the owners are finishing up some improvements to the outside of the building, the interior space has undergone a complete transformation,” Oak Forest's Community Development Director Adam Dotson stated in the release. “The menu is fun and inventive and really brings an exciting flavor to town. The restaurant is a welcome addition to the 159th Street corridor.”

Would love to try it, but in 2 attempts it hasn't been open yet, in spite of a press release by the City. What gives?

Don't bother!

I'm excited to try this restaurant out, although I LOVE Saki Bob's BBQ ribs! Lol! Best of success to YOU! (Anyone else notice that "El Burrito Lokos" customer service has gone down the toilet? It use to be outstanding! I believe it changed ownership or something. I've been going there for many years and never had an issue with the service...AND excellent Mexican food! After three lousy service interactions within the last month, I am choosing to take my business elsewhere.)

I'll be excited to see any reviews of this place. It sounds fantastic!! Laura - "don't bother"? Does this mean you've tried it? Has it actually opened?

@Patrick Gordon: When did you go? The restaurant was open late last week when I shot the above photo (I can't remember the exact day I was there). — Joe Vince, Tinley Park-Oak Forest Patch Editor

This place is great! I had some really tasty tacos. Great atmosphere. Nice and open on the inside.

I love this place. I know it hasn't been open due to a personal emergency, but it has been open. It is closed on Mondays; so, if you try to go then, you'll be disappointed. But, the food is delicious, and the location is being well taken care of. The bar is fun at night when the grill is closed. It's a nice place to relax and meet with friends. :)

The guy waiting on us was a really nice guy....I think he was an owner. There is no ambiance and I did not like the look of the vegetables on the buffet, the bowls were small and didn't like the end result (after the food was cooked). I looked at the patio before I left and it looked messy and concrete was broken in some places. I am just stating my opinion. I will not go back.

I loved it. The menu was more than I expected and the food was good. Normally im not a bar person because of the atmosphere but at VIP i had no problems. Both the owners and staff made me feel right at home. I will definitely return to enjoy another night of good food and drinks.

The staff at Patti G's Salon and Spa can not wait to try this place, we love to support our local businesses. Mongolian Beef sounds fantastic and we look forward to extending a warm welcome!

My husband and I went for dinner yesterday. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good. Don't let the size of the bowl fool you, it cooks up to a lot of food. I also like the fact that you can get your food for take out. They were adding more decor to the place when we were there. They are a welcome addition ti Oak Forest. We will definitely go back.
