Holiday Lag: What's Closed the Day after Christmas

Before you head out for your Monday errands, be sure to check our list of places that are closed in observance of the Christmas holiday.

Because Christmas fell on a Sunday this year, today is the observed Christmas holiday.

This means that Dec. 26 might not necessarily be business as usual. Check our list before you head out on your errands.

  • Bank lobbies and drive-ups will be closed, except , which will hold regular Monday hours.
  • Chain restaurants will be open regular hours (, Chili’s, Olive Garden, Red Lobster).
  • Coffee joints (, ) are open regular hours—most were open on Sunday as well.
  • Government offices are closed.
  • Malls are open.
  • will follow its Sunday schedule today.
  • Need an oil change? and Valvoline Instant Oil Change shops are open (but check with your local mechanic before heading over).

  • Public libraries are closed.
  • Target and Kmart are open regular hours.

Note about Metra: The regular Saturday schedule will also be in effect on Dec. 31, with the exception of trains departing after midnight that day. Trains will be held at the downtown terminals until 1:15 a.m. to accommodate passengers attending New Years Eve events in Chicago.
