Market Focus: Jerky Junky Offers Spicy Treats

Dianne Johnson talks about Jerky Junky and the freshly made products they sell at the Oak Forest Farmers Market.

Dianne Johnson of Orland Park took a few minutes on a lovely Tuesday afternoon to talk with Patch about beef jerky. Jerky Junky is a family owned and operated business that sells homemade jerky. Here's what Johnson had to say about this dried meat snack:

Oak Forest Patch: What kind of products do you offer?

Johnson: This is homemade beef jerky in various flavors. There's teriyaki, honey barbecue, garlic pepper, chipotle. Those are the biggest sellers. Those are the main flavors.

Patch: How did you get into the beef jerky business?

Johnson: My husband and son do it and I'm here at the market for them. They make it at home.

Patch: What inspired you husband and son into the jerky business?

Johnson: They just wanted to try to start a home business.

Patch: What separate this beef jerky from others out there?

Johnson: It's fresh. It's made weekly for the market. Those are the biggest reasons.

Patch: Do you sell at other Farmers Markets? Why did you choose Oak Forest's?

Johnson: Right now, this is the only one. We are going to be doing an event at the Oak Forest High School on July 21. My son did (Oak Forest's Farmers Market) last year. The people running it are very organized and we really like them. He really liked the vendors, too. They're very helpful, from helping set up to sending people over to the booth.

Jerky Junky can be reached by calling 708-691-6660 or emailing jerkyjunky@yahoo.com. Prices are $5 for a 3 oz. bag and 5 bags for $20.
