Aldermen Give Go-Ahead for Food 4 Less Gas Station

The 10-pump fueling station was part of the grocer's contract for the 72,000 square foot project, said Community Development Director Adam Dotson.

Food 4 Less will offer its own gas station at 5500 W. 159th Street, adjacent to a BP Amoco station, and across Central Avenue from a Jewel Express fuel stop.

Aldermen approved a special permit for the Food 4 Less project Tuesday, March 8. The gas station was part of the original redevelopment agreement with the city approved in July 2005, said Community Development Director Adam Dotson. The agreement states that the fuel station will have 10 pumps, with a cashier station which will not sell any products inside.

The Food 4 Less gas station plan hit a roadblock in Oct. 2010, when the BP Amoco owners objected to an additional gas station in the Oak Forest Commons Shopping Center, according to city documents.

The Oak Forest Planning and Zoning Commission revisited the subject in February, after a public hearing. The commissioners sent the matter through to city council with a positive recommendation.

The alderman voted 6 to 1 in favor of the gas station. Alderman Diane Wolf was the dissenting vote.
