Viewfinder: Art House Open for Business

Young art fans tried their hand at acrylic paints and wooden whistles at the first class at the Oak Forest Park District's Art House.

The led by local artist Toni Ruppert opened its doors for the first time Wednesday, March 23.

Ruppert, who's working in the house with the support of the Oak Forest Park District, showed students the art of pointillism, and encouraged them as they explored acrylic paints on their own wooden whistles.

Community projects for the groups learning with Ruppert are already in the works: t-shirt designs for the Oak Forest Park District dance team, kites for the park district's kite fly on April 30, a banner for the art house, buttons to support the Oak Forest Police Department's K-9 unit, projects with Together We Cope, and Relay for Life. Ruppert said she hopes the students will have a different non-profit to work with every three weeks.
