South Suburban College Readies for 13th Annual Jazz Festival

South Suburban College is hosting the free 2011 SSC Jazz Festival on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Kindig Performing Arts Center.

The 13th annual fest features clinics and performances by bands from SSC, more than 20 local high schools and middle schools, as well as instruction and performance by special guest clinicians.

This year’s guest artists are trumpeter Michael Phillip Mossman and saxophonist Mark Colby.  The SSC bands and the annual fest are under the direction of Andrew Hoefle.

“It’s an honor for us to have the festival running for 13 consecutive years,” said Andrew Hoefle, SSC Director of Bands. “It is a tribute to South Suburban College, the attending schools and our guest artists to continue to keep our musical heritage alive and thriving.”

The SSC Jazz Festival is a two-day non-competitive festival of jazz music. Each band plays for 15 to 20 minutes followed by a clinic with the special guest artists on stage. At the end of the festival, the awards are presented at the evening concert.   A complete schedule can be found at the Festival web site:
