Chris Medina: 'Idol' Title Is McCreery's for the Taking

Just minutes from the start of the 'American Idol' the former contestant and Oak Forest resident told Patch that the show's pattern points to McCreery as the clear-cut winner.

Scotty McCreery is a country boy, pitted against country girl Lauren Alaina—and if this season is anything like those in American Idol past, the odds are in McCreery's favor, said Chris Medina shortly before showtime.

"The young males seem to have an edge over the girls," Medina told Patch. "Not only is Scotty a country boy, but he's going up against a country girl. If they are fighting for the same kind of title and if Idol is anything like seasons past.... Then, it doesn't look good (for Alaina)."

But Medina's call wasn't the first hint of trouble for the Southern belle. Just an hour before showtime, TMZ.com broke the story that Alaina had lost her voice and would drop out of the finale. In that case, it was said that the judges would reinstate third-place finisher Haley Reinhart, of Wheeling, Ill.

But just after the start of Tuesday's show, Alaina reassured her fans she was ready to fight for her spot as their next Idol.

"I'm here, I'm ready to sing, I'm fine. Don't worry about it," Alaina told the crowd during the intro.
