Steaks Are High For Library, Lone Star Fundraiser

Acorn Public Library, Lone Star Steakhouse team up for fundraising night for library district.

Acorn Public Library District hopes to see many people digging into steak dinners Thursday, May 19.

The library and Lone Star Steakhouse are pairing up for a fundraising event from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Library Director Paul Mills, hopes Oak Forest residents will spoil themselves with a steak dinner to help fund the library's renovations.

“People can pick up a flier at the library or download it off the library website and present it to their server,” he said. “Ten percent of the bill will go to the library construction fund.”

The library construction project began in Dec. 2010 and is expected to be complete this October. The work adds a new story time room in the lower level, a mmeeting room in the upper level, and a re-positioned front entrance.

“The main entrance will be moved because the parking lot is on the South side of the building and will make it easier for people to walk to a closer entrance,” Mills explained.

Mills said the project was extensive; a computer lab will also be added upstairs and downstairs, with an adult reading room including a fireplace.

The total cost of the project is expected to ring up around $1.97 million, which means every little bit will help, Mills said.

“I think this is a great opportunity to support the library and have a great meal at the same time without extra costs to you,” Mills said.

From now until May 19, anyone can pick up a flier or download it at www.acornlibrary.org. Guests must present the flier for the 10 percent to be donated back to the library.

“My wife and I will be there that night and I would love to see as many people as possible with fliers in their hands,” Mills said.
