St. Damian Second-Grader Acts as Mayor for the Day

Second-grader spends day alongside Oak Forest Mayor Hank Kuspa.

Bryan Jasien became Oak Forest's youngest mayor Tuesday, April 12—even if it was only for the day.

Bryan, 8, a second-grader at St. Damian, won the chance to act as mayor for the day in a raffle, and he described it as “the best day of my life!”

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bryan met Mayor Hank Kuspa and was given a tour of the different city departments. He learned all about city hall, the clerk’s office and police and fire departments, but his favorite was Public Works.

“Going to Public Works was my favorite part,” Jasien said. “Everything that the public needs is done there.”

“He was talking all about Public Works and how the salt pile looked like a glacier,” she laughed. “He also liked walking by the water towers.”

Bryan finished the day off by attending the city council meeting, where he was introduced as the Mayor Bryan, but had to duck out in the middle of the meeting because it was getting close to his bedtime.

Bryan’s parents won the special day for their son in February, at St. Damian’s .
