St. Damian First Aid Class Coming to Hille

Firefighter/paramedic Joe Conway teams up with Oak Forest Fire Department Lieutenant Tim Moss to teach basic first aid and emergency preparedness to junior high students.

What do you do with an amputated finger? Or if someone shows signs of shock? Or if your friend is hit by a car? Joe Conway knows—and so do the junior high students at St. Damian.

The firefighter/paramedic and Oak Forest resident wants kids prepared in case they're called into action during an emergency. Conway leads a six-week long, basic first aid class for junior high students. The Basic Aid Training (BAT) program has been rolling at St. Damian for six years, and with the help of the Oak Forest Fire Department, this May it will carry over to .

OFFD Lieutenant Tim Moss said the program at Hille will be condensed into two weeks of four, one-hour sessions for the school's seventh-graders. Roughly 200 students will learn the basics of recognizing and responding to emergency medical situations.
