Sign Up, Step In, March: Deadline for 'I Am An American Day Parade' Coming

The deadline for sign-ups for local businesses, organizations, churches and other civic groups, for the "I Am An American Day Parade," is fast approaching. The deadline for the Veteran's Commission organized parade is Aug. 30.

Tick, tick, tick. Time is running out for residents, businesses and organizations from the Oak Forest community to sign up for their spot in the “I Am An American Day Parade,” on Saturday, Sept. 15. The deadline for registration for the parade is Thursday, Aug. 30.

The parade, which returns after a strong run in the '60s and '70s, is being hosted by the Oak Forest Veteran's Commission.

The parade itself steps off at 11 a.m., starting at 151st Street and continuing down Central Avenue to Independence Avenue. At the end of the parade there will be a War of 1812 at the Oak Fest grounds.

According to a press release from the Veteran's Commission, “The Veterans Commission is hosting the re-enactment as a way to recognize the bicentennial of the War of 1812, which brought the United States the Star Spangled Banner, the current White House, and a strong national identity.”
