Registration is now open for Oak Forest's annual Relay for Life, slotted for June 20, 2014.

Residents ready to hit the track for a good cause might have to wait to walk—but they can sign up now.

Registration is now open for Oak Forest's Relay for Life 2014, to be held Friday, June 20.

Relay is a fundraiser where people walk through the night not only to raise money for research, "but we also raise money that is put right back into our community to our survivors," said chair of a previous year's event, Paula Kubilius.

Already, 11 teams (and 38 individuals) have raised more than $5,000 for this year's event. Those interested can sign up online and get started on the American Cancer Society's website.

The 2013 all-night Relay for Life will kick off June 20 at 6 p.m., and end at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Raiders Field behind the Oak Forest Park District's Central Building at 157th and Central Avenue.

The theme for 2014 is Luau and there will be an open house Jan. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Community Center on 155th & Kilpatrick. A winter luminaria ceremony is planned for Dec. 13 at 7p.m. at the Central Park Gazebo.
