Returning Veterans Enjoy 'High Life' at Broken Arrow

Miller Brewing is paying for a golf outing for 150 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan as part of its High Life Experiences campaign.

More than 100 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will enjoy a round of golf and a steak dinner on Friday at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport, courtesy of the Lockport Veterans Commission and Kozol Brothers Distributors.

“The event is completely free to all Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who are at least 21 years old,” Gary Niehaus, chairman of the Lockport Veterans Commission, said in a news release.

Miller Brewing is underwriting the cost of the event for 150 veterans as part of its Give a Veteran a Piece of the High Life campaign, which pays for returning veterans to attend sporting events and concerts, to experience outdoor adventures, and, in this case, a round of golf and a buffet dinner featuring steak, ribs and chicken.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. Golf begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Only veterans are eligible for the free golf and dinner, which starts at 2:30 p.m.

“We do invite the veteran’s family to join in after dinner,” Niehaus said.

“The City of Lockport and Mayor Dev Trivedi are honored to serve as host to honor our returning veterans,” said Niehaus, who also is Lockport Police Commissioner.

“We have a very special relationship with Kozol Brothers, and they immediately came on board to make this a first-class event,” he said.

Miller donates 10 cents to the High Life Experiences fund for every specially marked bottle cap or can tab dropped off at participating retailers. They can also be mailed to Miller High Life Veterans Program, 3903 Portage Road, Suite C-140, South Bend IN 46628.

Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who belong to the Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America can register for High Life Experiences at www.iava.org.
