Oak Fest 2011: Dig In!

Any unhappy customers? With so many smiling, corndog-eating faces at Oak Fest yesterday, who could tell?

People from across the Chicago area came out en masse for 2011, last night from 6 p.m. to midnight. They lined up 15–20 deep at the ticket booths just to spin, dip and drop on their favorite rides. All the while, kids tried their luck pitching baseballs at targets to win inflatable bats or fishing for ducks to win stuffed bananas with dreadlocks.

, a hard-rock cover band from Chicago, jammed below an American flag at least 20 feet long, while purple-and-white lighting flickered across the dance floor.

“The sense of euphoria and fun,” that’s what carnival goers love, said Michael Ludowis, game agent for Spectacular Midways. “They sure don’t realize what’s going on, but they're constantly amazed.”
