Jack Frost Re-Opens for 'Clowning Around'

The sweet treat hot spot reopened for the season on April 1, and owners Dale and Peggy Wright are ready to scoop out the fun.

On hot summer nights, the line stretches across the patio, spilling over the sidewalk along 159th Street.

Though reopens April 1 each year, the crowds usually hold off until the weather shows consistent signs of summer. As soon as the weather breaks, the line grows and sales pick up, said owner Dale Wright.

Wright and his wife Peggy have owned the ice cream shop for 10 years, but the business has been in Oak Forest for 35. The couple came to own Jack Frost after they owned a Tastee Freez in Palos Heights.

Crowd favorites? Try the blitzes, or the banana split. Blitzes go for $3.50 (for a junior size) to $6.75 (for a large). For the kiddies (or the kid-at-heart), bite into a clown sundae ($2.50 for a small, $3 for a medium and $3.50 for a large). All prices already include tax.

The Wrights will pump sounds out onto their patio this year—a new addition to the A-frame building with plenty of patio seating.

The husband-wife team expects June and July to be their busiest months, as in previous years.
