Gingerwood Pool President Excited for Opening of 'Our Little Hidden Treasure'

Patch caught up with Gail Werr, president of Gingerwood Pool, as she keeps her fingers crossed for warmer weather and a successful early sign-up.

It might not look much like summer outside right now, but that's not putting any kinks in plans for the opening of Gingerwood Pool.

Early registration will take place April 30 and May 1, from noon to 2 p.m. During the early registration, residents can join for $80 for a single member, or $130 for a family of five. After the early registration ends, the prices will be $100 for a single member, and $160 for a family of five. President Gail Werr hopes to open the pool at 5130 Aldersyde Road by Memorial Day weekend.

The pool has a special place in Werr's heart.

"I've met some of my great friends, my lifelong friends here," Werr said. "Our kids have grown up together. My kids grew up at this pool. People will come here, order pizzas, spend time together.

"Everyone pitches in to make this work. It's our little treasure."

The pool had previously been closed due to lack of funds and leadership, Werr said, but dedicated supporters have raised funds and are renting the property from the city, to keep the pool up and running. While the pool had previously been open mainly to Gingerwood subdivision residents, it's now open to residents citywide. Werr said that roughly 40 percent of the pool's members come from outside Gingerwood.

Last year, 45 families were registered with the pool.
