GiGi's Playhouse, a national network of Down syndrome support and education centers, will hold a grand opening Sunday for its new Oak Forest location.

The event, which includes a ribbon-cutting, speeches and tours of the facility, runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at 5400 W. 159th St.

The grand opening won't simply be about official matters. Fun features, such as Snacks donated from the community and airbrushed tattoos, will be part of the festivities, too. Shirts, ball caps and other merchandise also will be on sale.

The Oak Forest location still needs some housekeeping items and supplies, such as toilet paper, dish soap and paper towels. Go to its Facebook page for a complete list of items that you can donate.

With 14 centers nationally and five more planned, GiGi's Playhouse offers free programs for people of all ages with Down syndrome and their families. The centers also work to shatter misconceptions about the disorder and the individuals living with thanks to national awareness and education campaigns.
