Get Clean, Go Green at Citywide Cleanup Event

Comcast sponsors Clean Up Day for Oak Forest; Green Steps joins in for fun of its own.

Set the alarm, pour yourself a cup of coffee, grab a bagel and head out to help out in Oak Forest Saturday, April 30.

Comcast, in coordination with the Green Steps Commission, City of Oak Forest and Together We Cope, will organize all willing residents in a citywide cleanup effort to mark the occasion of Earth Day and Comcast Cares Day. Beginning at 7:30 a.m., until 1 p.m., volunteers can pick up litter, paint, wash windows, and garden. A T-shirt and lunch provided by Comcast sweetens the deal.

For more information or to volunteer, please contact the city’s Public Relations Coordinator Chrissy Maher at (708)687-4050, ext. 1043 or cmaher@oak-forest.org. Registration will take place at City Hall.

Contribute to 'A Billion Acts of Green'

Green Steps decided to jump in on the fun.

For every “act of green” you commit (i.e., volunteering for the cleanup event, bringing a water bottle, pledging to “green” your home, etc.), you will receive a raffle ticket for your chance to win a Green Steps prize basket, according to the flier. The Green Steps Commission also will announce the winners of its Earth Day essay and coloring contest, conduct a youth Race to Recycle, and present its Green Business Award. In addition, you can recycle unwanted books at the Acorn Public Library table, recycle batteries at the All Charged Up table, and donate old cell phones to soldiers overseas.

Get up, get going, get green.
