Let's work our way backward this week, starting with the most recent comments and contributions to the page. There's little else on anyone else's mind, other than the hostage standoff hoax from Thursday night. Our Facebook fans followed the news throughout the night, as editor Lauren Traut reported from live from a home a block from the scene. We handpicked a few of the comments to show the "before" and "after" of police uncovering the hoax.

BEFORE

  • Tricia Booth Worthan: Wow...its causing craziness in oak forest...5 minute drive to parents house has been 25 minutes!!!
  • Tina Dunn Oostema: I hope everyone is safe :/
  • Matt Aggen: This is crazy! Thanks for the reporting, Lauren!
  • Cheri Anglin Swinford: Be careful!
  • Sarah Lyn: Any new updates?? I just wanna go home!!!!!!!
  • Felicia Sexton DePyper: Hopefully He will surrender. This situation is causing a great deal of Man power not only for Oak Forest, yet from surrounding departments as well.

AFTER

  • Danielle Abendroth: What an idiot! This guy really had nothing better to do than waste taxpayers' time and money. I hope that jail him and make him pay for the cost of this sham!
  • Matt Aggen: Wow. That'd really make me mad. Whose house was it? Where was he that the cops didn't know he was at a bar?!
  • Mary Jula Yuktonis: Why did he do this in the fiest place???
  • Kim Kohn Zolna: Hope he has to pay for all of this, not the tax payer's. He should be ashamed of himself. Thank's to all of the officers etc. involved.
  • Scott Slonski: With so much tragedy in the news lately, I'm just glad no one was hurt. Great reporting OF Patch!
  • Danielle Abendroth: Sure its a good thing noone was hurt, but really, so many lives were uprooted this evening for absolutely no reason at all. that man is going to have to leave his home for sure. if i were his neighbor and i was kept out of my home because hes such an [expletive] i'd be having quite a few words with him.
  • Kristy-Lyn Walls-Spellman: I love OF Patch!!!! I got my news from you all night! Please still keep us updated about the story and why he did this!!! Be Safe!
  • Laura Menard Raab: What a selfish person he definately has more problems then we know !
  • Judy Wortel-Ciufia: Great reporting, you were the only one who actually had the right story. I guess it pays to have connections like the mayor:)
  • Felicia Sexton DePyper: He thought he had problems before today, he has a boat load more...
  • Joan Hoye Bravo: Thanks for all of the updates about this situation. This person needs to be charged, locked up and have to pay for all of the resources used in what could have been a very dangerous situation. Great job by the OFPD. Hope all of the people who were displaced throughout all of this are back at home.

And now, for other news. ... Did you catch this week's , Tim Krafcisin? Tim was nominated based on his work an organization called Tinley Wish, and well, basically for being a great big brother.

  • Jeanne Pandolfi Bowes: Nice job Timmy!

We tried out a new feature this week, called You Ask, Patch Answers. A few weeks ago, readers sparked a discussion about the speed limit on Central Avenue. , and see what readers had to say, with all the facts out on the table.

  • Jeff Sprayberry: Even more of a reason to have sidewalks on bothsides of Central, for the safety of our children!!! What is the problem with putting one in???????? Not to mention it might make it look a little more appealing....
  • Janine Borgia Perez: Also, there are so many deer crossing Central..it is not well lit to alway be able to see them, it is easier to slow your vehicle from 25 to 0 as to 35 to 0. Plus you give people an in inch they'll take a mile. You raise it to 35 and they do 45...in fact they do 45 now.
  • Bill Swinford: I only wish they would pay as much attention to the speed of traffic on Victoria between James and Central as they do on Central..
  • Terri DeVos Modrak: There were also a couple other deaths on Central, as I recall. I think the slower speed is a good idea!
