The giant, silver star within the Oak Forest Veterans' memorial shines behind bricks recognizing those who have died serving the country. And wait—doesn't something about the star look just a little strange?

You're not seeing things—it's not exactly straight. But it also wasn't a mistake.

The star is slanted to create the impression that it's fallen from the sky, representing all those who have fallen in action, said Craig Miller, of the Oak Forest Veterans Commission.
