Don't Forget: Deadline for Christmas Parade and Trim-a-Tree Nov. 11

Don't miss your chance to march in the city's Christmas parade or tinsel up a tree.

If you want in on the 's Christmas parade and tree-trimming festivities, time is dwindling down.

The deadline for applications for both is Friday, Nov. 11. The city needs time to order just the right number of trees, said Mayor Hank Kuspa at Tuesday, Nov. 8's city council meeting.

Oak Forest's will be held outside on Saturday, Dec. 10. The parade will kick off from at 11 a.m. The parade will travel along Central Avenue to City Hall for the tree lighting.

Feeling particularly festive? Try out your tree-decorating skills in the Trim-a-Tree contest. The top three trees and three honorable mentions will be awarded at the tree lighting.

Santa Claus will stop into for refreshments and to hear the whisperings of Oak Forest kids' Christmas wishes. The city also asks that you consider donating an unwrapped toy to the , which provides comfort and distraction for children undergoing cancer treatments.  A donation box will be located in the fire station.

To participate in the Trim-A-Tree contest or march in the parade, please complete the application form included with this article. Parade participants will line up at Oak Forest High School at 10:30 a.m.

Trim-A-Tree Contest Rules

1. All families, businesses, and organizations within Oak Forest are welcome to participate.

2. Trees will be delivered to City Hall the week before the ceremony and should be decorated by Wednesday, Dec. 7. Winners will be announced at the ceremony.

3. All decorations must be weather resistant and securely fastened to the trees. No lights can be accommodated. You are responsible for removing all decorations after the event.

4. Please provide a sign identifying your family, business or organization by your tree. (Signs on stakes work best.)

5. Deadline for entries is Friday, November 11. We will not be able to accept any entries after this date.
