The Oak Forest Senior Commission is gearing up for its 13th Annual Senior Health Fair this Thursday, Oct. 11. The fair will be held at the Oak Forest Park District Gymnasium, 15601S. Central Ave., and is free to attend.
“We're doing it so that the seniors can get to see thing that they need,” said Beverly Beaty, Senior Commission Chairwoman. “We keep it at the gymnasium because it's easier to get to and it's not too far to walk from the parking lot.”
During the fair, which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., attendees will be able to receive free health screenings, flu shots, shingles, pneumonia and T-dap vaccines, provided by Walgreen's in Oak Forest and Dominick's of Homer Glen.
Also during the event, seniors can receive information on the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County, Inc., which will have information on how to improve living and self-sufficiency for seniors. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program will also be at the fair, ready to help seniors who have proper paperwork, lower their energy bills.
Beaty added that the entire event is a can't-miss for seniors.
“This is something seniors don't want to miss, there's going to be a lot of good information there,” she said.
