Oak Forest Resident Wins Dream Award From Everest College-Merrionette Park
Corrine Hendershot, while working at a nightclub to support her six children, sick father and ailing grandmother, knew she had to find a way to improve her family’s life.
Her decision? Enroll in the medical insurance billing and coding (MIBC) program at Everest College-Merrionette Park, and seek a new career. Despite her many obstacles, Hendershot, an Oak Forest resident, graduated at the top of her class and was named valedictorian.

In recognition of her efforts and perseverance, Hendershot won the college’s 2013 Dream Award. The award recognizes one graduate who has completed a post-secondary education while overcoming extraordinary challenges.

Even with the many pressures at work and home, Hendershot still managed to achieve a 4.0 GPA and perfect attendance. She also became a student mentor, earned recognition from the National Technical Honors Society (NTHS) and was named valedictorian.
In addition to her educational successes, Hendershot excelled in her externship, and she secured a full-time position as a professional biller at Practice Management Resource Group in Tinley Park, Ill. Her children and teachers at Everest refer to her as “super mom.”
“Corrine overcame enormous obstacles to achieve her dream of a better life for her children,” said Najibullah “AJ” Sare, president of Everest College-Merrionette Park. “We know her family shares our pride in her amazing accomplishments. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude inspired her teachers, classmates and Everest staff, and we wish her continued success.”
As a Dream Award winner, Hendershot will receive a $2,500 Everest scholarship to pursue advanced programs in her field of study.
