Oak Forest HS Baking Students Win Cake Contest with Barbie Cake

Oak Forest High School students David Losos, Megan Degard and Kayla Lillie pose with their award winning Barbie cake.  The winning group made their Barbie cake with pink fondant and a ribbon made of icing.  The cake making contest was sponsored by Oak Forest High School Family and Consumer science teacher Mrs. Vicky Vogel.  Prior to entering their award winning Barbie cake, group members researched cake history and the process of making cakes in the Instructional Materials Center. The students gained knowledge about many varieties of cakes, such as Lady Baltimore Cake from the southern U.S., that is made for weddings, and Gooey Butter Cake that comes from St. Louis, used for ladies luncheons. Students who entered the cake contest had the objective of making a birthday cake for a child aged 1-12.
