District 228 Second Annual Family Reading Night

The Second Annual District 228 Family Reading Night will be held at the Oak Forest High School Instructional Materials Center on November 20 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  At this event, we are honored to have two local authors speaking to students and community members. This event is free to the community and does not require reservations to attend.

The first featured local author is retired District 228 teacher, Lou Macaluso.  In October, he published In Search of Sal, a thriller of a story inspired by the biography of actor and multi-millionaire entrepreneur Sal DeVanno.  This book was named to Amazon.com’s top ten novels. He has also written The Warming Sicilian Son, written in 2012, a novella about a Sicilian-American writer's modern-day trip to Sicily and his grandfather's early 20th century emigration from Sicily to New Orleans in search of the American Dream.  His first novel, Clown Town, written in 2008, is a true story/social Chicago history of a baby boomer's struggle with death phobia filtered through a child's perspective.  Mr. Macaluso will also be talking about the process of self-publishing his first novel and the subsequent writing of his other two.

The second featured local author is Oak Forest’s own Lydia Ponczak, who has published Who’s After Samantha and is busy writing her second book.  Mrs. Ponczak is the host of the local cable access show, “News and Views,” which is shown in Oak Forest on Comcast Channel 4.  Mrs. Ponczak will be speaking about writing her book and the process she went through getting it published.
