D228 Board of Education Appoints New Board Member

At a special meeting on October 22, 2013 the Bremen High School District 228 Board of Education appointed Ms. Leslie J. Jones as its newest Board Member.  Ms. Jones fills the seat left after the resignation of Mrs. Sharon Rybak.

The Board followed an extensive application process to fill the vacant seat.  Six community members from across the District completed application packets and were interviewed by the Board of Education at the October 22 meeting, which lasted until 10:30 p.m.

After much discussion the Board, in a 6-0 vote, appointed Jones to fill the seat.  In her application, Jones stated that she wishes to be a strong advocate for students, parents and the communities saying, “It is my way of investing in our future.  I am a parent and responsible member of my community, and like all responsible parents, I understand that receiving a good education is fundamental to achieving success.  I am ready, willing and able to be a thoughtful, reasonable, and productive member of Bremen High School District 228.”

Board President John Kirkton said, “I am very pleased to have Ms. Jones join the District 228 Board of Education. The District was fortunate to have so many highly qualified applicants interested in filling the vacancy.  It was abundantly clear during the interview process that Ms. Jones has the best interests of the District's students as her top priority--as all of us on the Board do--and I look forward to working with her.”

Ms. Jones will take her Oath of Office at a Special Board of Education meeting, which will take place at Bremen High School on Tuesday, October 29 at Bremen High School.
