Business & Career Institute and SCORE to offer three more workshops
SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – SCORE and The Business & Career Institute of South Suburban College have joined forces to provide a series of free business workshops on six Mondays from October 22 through November 26, 2012. Attendees may choose from any or all of the workshops from the series to help their business grow and take advantage of the networking opportunities.
All six workshops will be held at the University & College Center with light breakfast, registration and networking to begin at 7:45 a.m., and workshops and discussion to follow at 8:00 a.m. The upcoming workshop schedule is as follows:
QUICKBOOK: BASIC – TRACK CASH FLOWS, SALES & PROFITS
Monday, November 12, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
This workshop will cover the importance of accounting for small businesses, setting reasonable expectations for your use of the program and keeping good records. It will provide a general overview to help attendees understand several financial basics:
- The importance of keeping records
- Differences between Cash & Accrual Accounting
- Definitions of Financial Statements
- Using Quickbooks
- Setting up bank accounts
- Entering sales and creating invoices and accounts receivable
- Create an account payable
- How to make a payment and clear an A/P

More About South Suburban College
South Suburban College
Founded in 1927, South Suburban College provides its students with a comprehensive, community college education. The college accepts students from Oak Forest and other south suburban communities, including Homewood, Harvery, Hazel Crest, Midlothian and others. For a complete list, visit the school's website.
Nearly 7,000 students enrolled for the fall 2010 semester, with about 4 percent being Oak Forest residents. Annually, about 17,000 students attend South Suburban College. The school offers 30 career education programs awarding Associate Degrees, as well as certification in areas such as computer information sciences and pharmacy technician. Other programs include court reporting or other health-related specialties.
As a community college, South Suburban offers transfer programs, which enables students to attain basic coursework before transferring to a larger college or university. Each spring, the college hands out 200 scholarships through its South Suburban College Foundation.
The college also has an Oak Forest extension, at 16333 S. Kilbourn Ave. The Oak Forest location offers college services and courses, including paramedic and paralegal training.
The school's Bulldog baseball team is well-respected in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
